Lighting the Way for High School Athletes
Haley Ward was retained by the Town to evaluate the pool and to make recommendations for its repair or aley Ward helped with the first phase of a complete reconstruction of the athletic fields at Brewer High School. When funding for the lighting was acquired in the fall of 2020 the lighting portion of the project was accelerated to get it installed prior to the 2021/2022 school year. Haley Ward was able to meet this deadline and provided electrical engineering design for the new lighting and control system along with coordinating the electrical installation of the work with volunteers and the contractors. The challenge with installing the lighting prior to the overall field design was getting the correct elevation of the lights to allow for flexibility when the artificial turf design has not been completed. Despite winter conditions to install the conduits and light pole bases along with finding ledge at a depth that required alternate concrete base designs, the Haley Ward team met the challenge.
“For the past two years, the Brewer Athletic Department has worked closely with engineers at Haley Ward on a capital fundraising campaign to improve our athletic facilities behind our school campus. Our lighting system was around 20 years old, with inferior halogen lighting and controls that often malfunctioned, and even caught on fire in the fall of 2020. Electrical engineer, Phil Badger, worked seamlessly with us to replace our system with state of the art Musco LED lighting. Additionally, civil engineer, Chip Haskell, has been an integral part of the plans to replace our outdoor athletic space with FieldTurf artificial turf surface.
