Jeffrey McElroy worked in carpentry before enlisting with the U.S. Coast Guard, serving for five years. His work with the Coast Guard included assessment work associated with the Exxon Valdez oil spill clean-up in Alaska. Jeff spent three years of his service working for the U.S. Coast Guard Research and Development Center in Groton, Connecticut, and it was during the time that he developed an interest in working with the environment.  After his service with the Coast Guard, Jeff attended Southern Maine Technical College, earning an A.S. degree in Environmental Technology. He then earned a B.S. in Natural Resources from the University of Maine. Jeff worked for two years as a senior field technician with an industrial hygiene consulting company, before joining S. W. Cole Engineering, Inc. in 1997 as a geologist. His experience includes pollution abatement studies; sampling of soil gas, soil, sediment, surface water, groundwater, and air; and operation of equipment for chemical analyses.
