Haley Ward, Inc. Receives Two Engineering Excellence Awards from ACEC of Maine

BANGOR, MAINE- Haley Ward, Inc. is proud to announce that it has received two prestigious Maine Engineering Excellence Awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Maine (ACEC of Maine). The awards were presented last week at the ACEC of Maine Fall Forum, and recognized Haley Ward’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and technical achievement in engineering and technology.

“We are incredibly proud of our employees and honored to receive these awards from ACEC of Maine,” said President and CEO Denis St. Peter, PE. “Our work on the Malone Family Tower and the Tekαkαpimək Contact Station reflects our dedication to advancing engineering excellence and delivering meaningful solutions to our clients. These projects embody the skills, creativity, and teamwork that define Haley Ward.”

Haley Ward was honored with two distinct Honor Awards:

1. Maine Medical Center, Malone Family Tower – The $378 million Malone Family Tower project at Maine Medical Center was a major expansion designed to enhance hospital infrastructure on Portland’s peninsula. Built into a prominent hillside and replacing a large parking facility, the project navigated complex logistics within an active hospital environment, which included helicopter landings, ambulance traffic, and city congestion. Its completion brings increased capacity and operational efficiency to the heart of downtown Portland, supporting Maine Medical Center’s commitment to high-quality patient care. For this project, Haley Ward was recognized with the Honor Award for Coordination of a Complex Mechanical System using a Digital Model. This project highlighted Haley Ward’s exceptional capability in managing and coordinating a complex mechanical system using advanced digital modeling. This approach optimized system functionality while minimizing construction conflicts, allowing for the seamless integration of sophisticated mechanical elements within the facility. The recognition underscores Haley Ward’s dedication to innovative solutions in healthcare facility design and management.

2. Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, Tekαkαpimək Contact Station – Haley Ward collaborated with the Elliotsville Foundation, Inc. to design and complete the Tekαkαpimək Contact Station at Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, a project that opened to the public in 2024. Blending Maine craftsmanship with modern engineering, the structure was designed to withstand the region’s natural elements while harmonizing with the landscape, overcoming challenges such as shallow bedrock and customized timber columns to achieve a seamless and enduring design. For this, Haley Ward was recognized with the Honor Award for Innovative Fabrication of Aesthetic Structural Elements. This award celebrates the firm’s ingenuity in the innovative fabrication of aesthetic structural elements that blend seamlessly with the natural landscape, enhancing visitor experience while honoring the monument’s unique heritage. Haley Ward’s team applied creative engineering and sustainable practices to deliver a structure that is both visually appealing and environmentally conscious.

Travis Noyes, PE, Haley Ward Chief Operating Officer stated “While these projects may seem different at first—granting access to a unique part of Maine and enhancing patient safety—at their core, Haley Ward is dedicated to improving the lives of Mainers and visitors alike. Our expertise delivers innovative, sustainable, and impactful solutions to our clients, and we are excited to see these two projects recognized.”

These awards underscore Haley Ward’s commitment to advancing the engineering profession and setting new standards in project delivery. As the firm continues to expand its services and expertise across the Northeast and beyond, these honors solidify Haley Ward’s reputation for quality and innovation in delivering complex engineering and BIM solutions.
