At Haley Ward, Inc., we understand the complexities of environmental compliance and the importance of protecting our natural resources. Our environmental laboratory specializes in the whole effluent toxicity testing, and macroinvertebrate collection, taxonomy and bioassessments.
WHOLE EFFLUENT TOXICITY TESTING
We provide freshwater and marine Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) testing for Maine and beyond, following Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and National Pollution Discharge and Elimination System (NPDES) guidelines. We perform freshwater WET tests using brook trout, water fleas and fathead minnows, and marine WET tests with mysid shrimp, inland silverside and the purple sea urchin. Our team has successfully performed a number of Toxicity Reduction Evaluations (TRE) for both municipal and industrial discharges.
MACROINVERTEBRATE COLLECTION AND TAXONOMY
BIOASSESSMENTS
Our team has more than 20 years of experience providing benthic macroinvertebrate collection, identification and analysis services for government agencies and industrial clients. All identifications are performed by a Society for Freshwater Science (SFS) certified taxonomist. We collect samples using kick nets, drift nets, artificial substrates and a variety of grab samplers. In addition to freshwater benthic taxonomy, we provide marine macroinvertebrate identification and community analysis. This information has been used to study pollution discharges, hazardous waste sites, and long term ecological changes.
