Treasure Coast Food Bank
Project Scope
The Treasure Coast Food Bank development is a key infrastructure project in St. Lucie County, Florida, designed to support the long-term growth and operations of one of the region’s most vital nonprofit organizations. EDC/Haley Ward partnered with Tambone Companies, Inc. to provide a full range of services for the project, including planning, civil engineering and permitting, surveying, and environmental consulting.
Our team prepared and secured approval for a phased site plan, allowing for the construction of a 247,807-square-foot office and warehouse facility to house the Treasure Coast Food Bank, along with a future 106,096-square-foot building on the same 14.88-acre site. As part of the entitlement process, we also prepared a plat to subdivide the parcel into two lots and assisted with the right-of-way dedication required by the conditions of approval.
The site design includes a 3.87-acre building footprint and a 1.37-acre stormwater management system featuring both a lake and a dry detention area. The stormwater infrastructure was engineered to comply with South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and North St. Lucie River Water Control District requirements.
A key design success was minimizing stormwater infrastructure costs by utilizing efficient grading and only five catch basins across the site. The linear dry detention area uses infiltration pipes to convey stormwater to two control structures, helping keep the area dry and functional while reducing the need for additional structures and piping.
The addition of the Treasure Coast Food Bank facility will significantly enhance the organization’s ability to provide food and essential services to the region. Community support for the project was substantial, with local officials, residents, and stakeholders attending a groundbreaking ceremony prior to construction.
Despite the site’s size and complexity, the project team was able to balance regulatory compliance, cost-efficiency, and functional design. The result is a lasting community asset that not only serves a critical nonprofit mission but also reflects thoughtful land development practices and meaningful public engagement.
